Pistorius has failed to get near the Berlin qualifying time |
Double amputee Oscar Pistorius says he has given up trying to qualify for the 400m at next month's World Athletics Championships in Berlin. The Paralympic gold medallist ran a season's best of 47.07 seconds in Lucerne last week - well short of the qualifying time of 45.95. The South African suffered a boating accident in February which left him with head and facial injuries. It hampered his training but he is still targeting London's 2012 Olympics. "Having not made the minimum qualifying time, I must resign myself to staying at home," he told reporters in Rome on Sunday. The South African could now aim for a place at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
