Dawes will also compete in the half-marathon at the Island Games on Friday |
Guernsey 10,000m runner Steve Dawes, has won silver at the Island Games, coming second to home-grown Olympic runner, Janne Holmen. Holmen, from Aland, is a former European Champion and lapped everyone but Dawes twice during the race, winning in 30:03:64. Dawes finished in a time of 32:25:12, a performance he was delighted with. He said: "I'd love to win but it was nice being second to Holmen because he's in a different league." Dawes told BBC Radio Guernsey: "I'm happy because all I've ever had is bronze, so it's a step up and next time hopefully Holmen won't be there." Lee Garland continued Guernsey's success on the track on Monday afternoon, winning silver in the 3000m steeplechase. The 34-year-old finished in 09:44:21 behind Thomas Wade from the Isle of Wight.
