Dibaba has her eyes on Meseret Defar's 3000 metre world record |
World record holder Tirunesh Dibaba will run in the 3,000 metres at the Aviva Grand Prix at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena in February. The double Olympic gold medallist returns to the NIA three years on from her previous victory on the same track. "Dibaba is possibly the best female long distance runner in the world at the moment," said National Endurance Coach at UK Athletics, Ian Stewart. "To have her at our meet in February is an exciting opportunity for fans." The 23-year old claimed gold in both the 5,000 and 10,000 metres in Beijing this summer and now she has her sights set on a new world record at the NIA. The current record for the 3000 metres indoors is held by Dibaba's main rival, Meseret Defar.
