Ohuruogu is also expected to challenge at London 2012 |
Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu has been named the British Olympic Association's athlete of the year at the UK Athletics' awards in Solihull. The 24-year-old added Olympic 400m gold in Beijing this summer to the 2007 world title she claimed in Osaka. The Londoner beat hot favourite Sanya Richards of the US and Jamaica's Shericka Williams in 49.62 seconds. Ohuruogu served a 12-month ban, ending in August 2007, after missing three out-of-competition doping tests. She then won an appeal against the BOA's lifetime ban from competing for Britain at the Olympics. The Newham and Essex Beagles runner also won the Commonwealth gold in 2006 and the World 4x400m bronze in 2005 and 2007. The sprinter was one of Britain's 19 gold medallists in China. And she is also expected to be among the British medal contenders for the London Games in 2012.
