Russian Isinbayeva set her 12th outdoor world record |
Russian Yelena Isinbayeva set a new women's pole vault record of 5.03m at the Golden League meeting in Rome. The Olympic and world champion improved on her previous best mark of 5.01m set in Helsinki in August 2005. "I was ready for the record - it's what I wanted," said the 26-year-old, who has set 22 world records in total. "After I jumped 4.95m I felt like putting the bar at 5.03m rather than 5.02m. This is the start - there's the Olympics and other records will come." Poland's Monica Pyrek took second with a vault of 4.75m and Germany's Silke Spiegelburg finished third with 4.70m.
