Isinbayeva & Richards share prize
Yelena Isinbayeva and Sanya Richards
Isinbayeva and Richards took a half share of the $1m jackpot
Yelena Isinbayeva and Sanya Richards shared the $1m Golden League jackpot after winning their events at the final meeting in Berlin on Sunday.

Russian Isinbayeva sailed over at 4.82m to wrap up the pole vault.

Sanya Richards stormed to victory in the 400m in 49.27 seconds, beating world champion Christine Ohuruogu and fellow Briton Nicola Sanders.

The Golden League jackpot is split amongst athletes who win their events in all six meetings of the season.

Richards failed to qualify for the United States team at this summer's World Championships but showed her class at the Olympiastadion.

The American, 22, finished more than a second ahead of Ohuruogu, who clinched second from Sanders by 0.30 in a time of 50.40.

Richards, who claimed a 250,000 share of the money last season, joked afterwards: "I always say I spend too much so the goal this year is to invest it."

Ohuruogu also lost out to Richards in Zurich but said she is taking motivation from the American's performance.

"I've taken inspiration from it," said Ohuruogu. "This is what everyone else has had to do as well."

Ohuruogu and Sanders will face another test when they compete in the season-ending World Athletics final in Stuttgart next weekend.

Isinbayeva also secured a dominant win in the pole vault, entering at 4.62m before clearing 4.82m at her first attempt, a height which her closest rival, compatriot Svetlana Feofanova, failed to clear.

The double world champion said: "It was a lot of hard work but I was always confident.

"I now want to share the money with some poor kids, starting with my home town of Volgograd."

British sprinter Marlon Devonish, who is trained by Sanders' coach Tony Lester, also goes to Stuttgart on the back of another satisfactory display in Berlin.

Devonish finished second in the 100m, clocking 10.15 behind Norway's Jaysuma Saidy Ndure with British 200m specialist Rikki Fifton a surprise third.

Mark Lewis-Francis was woefully out-of-sorts, trailing home last in 10.45.

Britain's Montell Douglas also crossed the line in eighth in the women's 100m, clocking 11.45 in a race won by American world bronze medallist Carmelita Jeter.
