Pickering is last year's European 60m silver medallist |
Craig Pickering will not challenge for a place in Britain's squad for next month's World Indoor Championships because of a hamstring injury. Pickering, 21, had hoped to impress selectors at a meeting in Paris on Friday before the final selections are announced on 26 February.
Now Simeon Williamson is likely to be given the second 60m spot alongside his training partner Dwain Chambers.
"Craig has drawn the line on his indoor season," said his coach Malcolm Arnold.
"He was just getting over the virus which kept him out of Birmingham when the
knee problem came to light and it's now affecting his hamstring.
"His doctor said it would be a miracle for him to get fit enough to run in
Paris on Friday."
Pickering missed the weekend's indoor meeting in Birmingham because of a virus.
He ran badly to finish fifth behind controversial race winner Chambers at the world indoor trials on 3 February.
The World Indoor Championships take place in Valencia from 7-9 March.
