Alex Nelson wants a place in the GB squad for the Beijing Olympics |
Young Stoke sprinter Alex Nelson has said he will never be tempted to use performance-enhancing drugs. Controversy still rumbles on over Dwain Chambers, who was banned for two years after a positive drugs test in 2003 and has not been tested since late in 2006.
But Nelson, 19, who was in the 4x100m relay squad at the 2007 World Championships, said: "I've never come across drugs myself."
"If I can't get good enough by training hard, it's just not meant to be."
Nelson added: "It's not something I'd ever consider. I guess if you ever felt the need to take them, they are readily available."

There has been growing controversy over the decision to let former European champion Chambers, who was suspended for testing positive for the banned steroid THG, compete at the world indoor trials, which start in Sheffield on Saturday.
Nelson said he understands the concerns about how drugs are affecting the sport of athletics.
"There will be some who say he should be banned for life, and others who will say that's he's served his time and should be allowed to run."
"As an athlete, you're more likely to think that as long as he's clean now, the only thing I can do is beat him."
"Obviously my goal is the Beijing Olympics, either in an individual spot or in the relay. But Dwain being back could make that more difficult."
