Alex Nelson is not competing in the indoor season on the advice of his coaches. |
Stoke athlete Alex Nelson has decided he will not be competing in this year's indoor season. Nelson, who won 200m gold at last year's European Youth Championships, will instead focus on selection for the Beijing Olympics in September.
The 19-year-old went on the advice of his coaches to not participate in the 2008 indoor events.
Nelson told BBC Radio Stoke: "The way I like to run my race means I don't have a very good first half of the season."
He will now focus on a training regime with his coaches in Birmingham and at Northwood Stadium.
Nelson from Birches Head, comes from a sporting family. His father Steve Nelson played football for Stoke City and his sister Ashlee is also an athlete.
Ashlee, who is 16, has also had medal success. She won a 4x100m relay gold and a 100m bronze medal at the World Youth Championships in the Czech Republic last year.
