Paul McKee will run over 400m in Stockholm on Tuesday night |
Paul McKee warmed up for Tuesday's outing at the Stockholm Grand Prix by clocking 21.83 over 200 metres at Barnet, near London on Saturday. Running for Border in a British League meeting, McKee took a close second place in a race run into a 2.9 metres per second wind.
"I finished second in the race behind a guy who ran 21.1 the other day," McKee told BBC Sport.
"I reckon my time was equivalent to a 21.4 in decent conditions."
McKee believes that he needs to work on his speed as he continues his battle to get back in 45-second shape for 400m.
He will run over 400m in Stockholm on Tuesday before competing over one lap in Switzerland next weekend.
McKee's best 400m time this season is 46.44 and his most recent outing over one lap was a 46.6 clocking in Zaragoza last weekend.
"My 46.6 in Spain probably better than my 46.44 because conditions were worse," added McKee.
"I am running the 400m B race at the Stockholm Grand Prix and will compete in La Chaux de Fonds the following Sunday in the 400m."
McKee finished second behind David Gillick at the rain-affected Irish Championships a fortnight ago.
Tuesday's race will offer him the last opportunity of securing a place in the Irish team for this year's World Championships before the qualifying deadline.
The Belfastman needs to run a time of 45.95 or better to join Gillick in Osaka.
McKee set his personal best of 45.58 in 2002.
