Turnbull faces a tough first round heat in Birmingham |
Gareth Turnbull says he is "hopeful of a positive outcome" to his attempts to recoup the 100,000 costs he spent clearing his name of a doping charge. Turnbull told the BBC he is "currently in discussions with the Irish Sports Council (ISC) about my case".
The ISC charged Turnbull with a doping offence last June but he was later cleared in October.
He opens his 1500 metres challenge at the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham on Saturday.
Turnbull faces a tough first-round heat with Spain's Arturo Casado and France's Mounir Yemmouni fancied to claim two of the three automatic qualifying spots.
However, Turnbull is capable of progressing to Sunday's final even though he has had the misfortune to be drawn in the opening of the two heats.
"If you were in the second heat you would be laughing because of the fastest loser's situation and them knowing what they had to do," he said.
"However, Joachim Brondbo of Norway is in my heat and it would be great it he cracked the pace along just as he did at the Irish Championships at the Odyssey Arena when I won the race."
Turnbull's compatriots James Nolan and Liam Reale will be involved in the second 1500m heat.
Anna Boyle also faces a stiff task in progressing beyond her first-round heats in the 60m.
Boyle's rivals include Greece's former Olympic 100m bronze medallist Ekaterina Thanou and Merlene Ottey.
The Dunloy woman is fifth fastest of the competitors in her heat with only the top two guaranteed to progress to Saturday evening's semi-finals.
