Wanjiru first set the record in 2005 |
Sammy Wanjiru reclaimed the world half-marathon record with a time of 58 minutes and 53 seconds. Haile Gebrselassie broke Kenyan Wanjiru's mark of 59:16 - set in 2005 - in January 2006 in Phoenix, Arizona.
But Wanjiru bettered the Ethiopian's time of 58:55 at the Ras Al Khaimah International Half-Marathon on Friday.
The 20-year-old, who won the United Arab Emirates race ahead of compatriot Patrick Makau, said: "I'm very happy to get my world record back."
