Paul McKee
McKee will compete in the Irish Championships later this month
Belfast athlete Paul McKee produced a season's best of 46.80 at a meeting in Italy on Sunday.

McKee's performance to take sixth place was an encouraging run as those behind him included Britain's Commonwealth Games finalist Martin Rooney (47.14).

Former world champion Michael Blackwood won in 45.54 ahead of Trinidad's Ato Modibo (46.09) in Padova.

McKee produced his personal best of 45.58 in 2002 and his previous best time this season was 46.91.

The Belfast athlete is chasing this year's World Championship standard of 45.55.

At the same Padova meeting, Ireland's David Campbell clocked 1:47.18 to take seventh in the 800m.

American Jonathan Johnson won the race in 1:46.34 ahead of Poland's Pawel Czapiewski (1:46.64) while those ahead of Campbell included sixth-placed Italian Andrea Longo (1:47.16).

McKee and Campbell will be among those in action at the Irish National Championships on 21/22 July at Santry.
