Somali-born Farah leads Britain's team for Kenya in March

Farah lifted the European cross-country men's title last month.

The 23-year-old was named for the senior men's team, while Jo Pavey and Hayley Yelling will fly the flag in the senior women's race.

European junior title holder Stephanie Twell, Emily Pidgeon and Sian Edwards have also been picked.

Farah has already lined up a challenging series of events ahead of the Worlds, including a tilt at the 3,000m at the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

However, the Twickenham-based runner will first turn his hand to an unusual race at the Norwich Union Birmingham Grand Prix on 17 February.

He will join 11 other athletes in the rarely run "devil take the hindmost" mile at the National Indoor Arena, where the last runner across the line at the end of laps two to seven is removed from the race.

Farah said: "This unique opportunity really intrigued me as I've never seen it done before.

"It will require completely different tactics to ensure I'm not removed before the end of the race.

"I've tested myself over a number of distances on the track, road and mud and all this only strengthens my overall running ability."
