Carter won four consecutive US college championship titles |
Xavier Carter, the second fastest 200m runner in history, will make his only European indoor appearance of the season in Birmingham on 17 February. The 21-year-old American will compete in the 400m at the Norwich Union Grand Prix at the National Indoor Arena.
"I really enjoyed my first run in the UK at Crystal Palace this year so I was keen to come back," said Carter.
This year he ran the 200m in 19.63secs, a time bettered only by Michael Johnson's 10-year-old world record.
Carter first came to prominence when he equalled Jesse Owens' feat of winning four titles at the prestigious US college championships.
He will compete in the 400m in Birmingham as his preferred event is no longer part of the international indoor circuit because the tightness of bends rules out fair competition.
"This will be my only run in Europe this indoor season, so I want to make the most of it," he added.
