Allen is forced out of the European Championships |
Northern Ireland javelin thrower Michael Allen has withdrawn from the Great Britain European Championship squad because of an ankle injury. Allen had earned his first major senior championship selection after improving his Northern Ireland record by over four metres this season.
The Ballymoney athlete threw 79.55m at the Northern Ireland Championships in June, but missed the AAA's last month.
Allen was the only Northern Irish athlete in the GB squad for Gothenburg.
However, Paul McKee, Anna Boyle and Paul Brizzel are in the 29-strong Ireland team.
