Campbell - I'm not finished yet
Darren Campbell (right) shows his disappointment after failing in the 100m
Darren Campbell insists his career is not over despite failing to reach a sprint final at the AAAs Championships for the first time in 13 years.

The 31-year-old trailed home fifth in his 100m semi-final in 10.48 seconds and then pulled out of Sunday's 200m.

"Don't get me wrong, Darren Campbell is not finished yet," the Olympic 4x100m champion said in Manchester.

"But as far as the Worlds goes, unless people get hurt, I would not even ask for a place."

Campbell is unlikely to be selected for the individual sprints in Helsinki but could be handed a place in the 4x100m squad.

I'll go back on the circuit now and try to do some fast times

At the last world championships in Paris, Campbell took a surprise bronze in the 100m but he was not able to emulate that form at last year's Olympics, failing to reach the final.

The Manchester-born athlete dismissed talk of retirement after the Athens Olympics, where he was publicly criticised.

But Campbell has not come anywhere close to his best this season after struggling with injury, recording season's bests of 10.49 in the 100m and 21.17 over 200m

"Ever since I have come back from my hip injury and made the decision to keep going to Beijing, I have been playing catch-up," Campbell said.

"I have been trying too hard to force it. I'll go back on the circuit now and try to do some fast times.

"I would hope that the Commonwealth Game selectors will consider me for Melbourne."
