Pickering lies in third place in the British 100m rankings

The 18-year-old finished clear of the pack in 10.36 seconds while Olympic relay gold medallist Darren Campbell trailed home in fifth in 10.47.

"Craig showed great experience," said Campbell, who took some consolation by winning the 200m B race in 21.17.

"I drove all the way down here to run properly but I'm not worried about my performance. I know I'll be back."

Pickering's performance sees him climb to the top of Europe's junior rankings over 100m.

And while Campbell will set his sights on the World Championships in Helsinki this summer, Pickering is targeting the European Junior Championships in Lithuania.

Janine Whitlock tuned-up for next week's European Cup match by adding an extra centimetre to her UK pole vault record in Bedford, climbing to 4.46m.

Olympic heptathlon bronze medallist Kelly Sotherton came second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.37 seconds.

Meanwhile, Robert Tobin raced to the top of the British 400m rankings with an outstanding win in Geneva on Saturday.

The 21-year-old smashed his personal best, clocking 45.01 seconds - a time which easily met the qualifying mark for August's World Championships.

There was no such luck for British team-mate Daniel Caines, who finished back in fifth in 46.58.

Meanwhile, 800m specialist James McIlroy posted a solid 46.50 to win the Northern Ireland 400m title in Belfast.
