Paul McKee recently returned to action after a year's absence |
Paul McKee produced an encouraging 400 metres outing at an international meeting in Belgium on Friday night. McKee, who has been affected by injury and illness over the past two years, clocked a season's best of 46.95 to take fourth place in his race.
Paul Brizzel finished second in the 200m in 21.52, in a race which was run into a 2.5m wind.
Brizzel's Ballymena & Antrim club-mate Anna Boyle beat a good field to win the women's 200m in 23.97.
Meanwhile, local hero Sonia O'Sullivan will be joined by several world-class athletes in Saturday's BUPA Ireland Cork City Sports at the Mardyke.
O'Sullivan's opposition in the 3000m will include US 5000m champion Shalane Flanagan and 2004 World Cross Country Champion Benita Johnson.
The men's 3000m also has the makings of a good race with local man Mark Carroll facing stiff opposition in Australia's Craig Mottram and Kenyan Paul Bitok.
American sprint star Bernard Williams will be in action in the 100m while the 400m sees Ireland's European Indoor Champion David Gillick taking on another world-class US athlete Tyree Washington.
Olympic long jump champion Dwight Phillips, American middle-distance prospect Alan Webb, double world hurdles champion Anjanette Kirkland and Marlon Devenish are also scheduled to compete.
Phillips' rivals in the long jump will include his training partner, Irishman Ciaran McDonagh, who is looking to get back to the eight-metre form he showed in 1999.
