Northern Ireland's James McIlroy showed good early-season form by winning the 1,000m at an indoor event in Stuttgart. McIlroy won in a time of two minutes 19.49 seconds to beat Moroccan Youssef Baba by 0.27 seconds.
Fellow Briton Jeanette Kwakye won the women's 60m, while team-mate Jo Pavey was second behind Ethiopia's Berhane Adere in the 3,000m.
Middlesbrough's Chris Tomlinson came third in a long jump won by Mauritius' Jonathan Chimer, who leapt to 7.97m.
Briton Steve Hepples was never in contention in his 3,000m race, finishing eighth in 8:08.45, a long way behind Bahrain's Mushir Salim Jawher, who set a season's best of 7:43.30.
