Donegal man Gary Murray produced a fine run to take second place in Sunday's Reebok Cardiff Cross-Challenge.

Murray finished 25 metres behind winner England's Peter Riley while Glynn Tromans took third.

Ireland's Jolene Byrne took a solid second in the women's event, 40 metres adrift of European Cross Country champion Hayley Yelling.

Meanwhile, Deirdre Ryan set a new overall Irish high jump record with a clearance of 1.90m in Glasgow.

Ryan's mark bettered Laura Sharpe's national outdoor record of 1.89m set in 1994 and added two centimetres to her personal best set last weekend.
