Paul McKee is gradually finding his way back to form |
Paul McKee clocked a season's best for the 400 metres at a meeting in Switzerland on Sunday. The Belfast athlete's time of 46.63 in finishing second in the Swiss meeting in La-Chaux-de-Fonds cut .32 of a second off his best time this season.
He set his Irish record of 45.58 in 2002 but he has been hit by illness and injury over the past two years.
Meanwhile, Anna Boyle was part of the Irish 4x100m relay team which claimed bronze at the World University Games.
The Ballymena & Antrim sprinter was joined by Derval O'Rourke, Ailis McSweeney and Emily Maher and they clocked 44.69 in the final which left them behind Russia (43.62) and France (43.73).
O'Rourke and McSweeney had already won bronze and silver in the 100m hurdles and 100m while Paul Hession (200m) and Jolene Byrne (5000m) also finished third in their events in Turkey.
On Saturday, Paul Brizzel achieved a sprint double at a meeting in Belgium.
Brizzel won the 100 metres in 10.75 and a time of 21.25 was good enough to take victory in the 200.
Also on Saturday, Laura Kerr set a Northern Ireland women's javelin record with a throw of 49.23 metres which bettered the previous mark of her coach Alison Moffit.
Meanwhile, Ireland's Ciaran McDonagh set a new Irish long jump record of 8.07m at Sunday's meeting La-Chaux-de-Fonds.
The performance betters his own Irish record of 8.00m which he set when he reached the World Championship final in Seville in 1999.
Since then his progress has been severely hit by injury but McDonagh can now aim for next year's European Championships with renewed optimism.
McDonagh spent last winter training in American with Olympic and world champion Dwight Phillips.
