Injury scuppered Gebrselassie's Olympic chances |
Haile Gebrselassie is mulling over which races to compete in as he embarks upon his new marathon-running career. The 33-year-old finished third in last year's London Marathon, his first and only attempt so far at the distance.
Gebrselassie could run in London again but may opt for the Boston Marathon, a day later on 18 April.
"I know I will be moving into a full marathon again but I do not know which one. I will know in a month's time," said the Ethiopian.
Gebrselassie will return to action in a non-competitive race in Kenya later this month, eight weeks after Achilles surgery.
The Running Toward a Mine Free Road Race will take place in Nairobi on 27 November, one day ahead of an international conference on landmines.
"I spent most of my youth running back and forth around my community," he said.
"Mines may rob another runner, with similar potential, of such a career."
The former world and Olympic 10,000m champion only finished fifth in Athens because of the injury and it nearly forced him out of the race.
"This will not be a competitive race, but rather it will be a race for a cause," said event organiser Sarah Njeri.
