Zhanna Pintusevich-Block will be a big draw at Bangor |
Former world 100 metre champion Zhanna Pintusevich-Block is to compete in the North Down International Games on 16 July. It is the second sprint star to be booked following confirmation that Frankie Fredericks was to participate at the Bangor Sportplex meeting.
The 32-year-old US-based Ukrainian was the sprinter who ended Marion Jones's 54-race winning streak three years ago.
Block was fifth in the Sydney Olympics 100m and eight in the 200m.
She has also taken threee European silver medals, but it was back in 2001 that Block made headlines in defeating Jones in the World championships in Edmonton.
It was biggest shock in years when she clocked 10.82 in pushing the American into second place.
Block narrowly failed to defend her title in Paris last year when she clocked 10.99 in winning the silver medal.
The powerfully-built sprinter is certain to lower the Northern Ireland all-comers record for the 100m.
