Brizzel has already achieved the 200m Olympic qualifying time |
Paul Brizzel will run the 200m for Ireland in this weekend's Europa Cup meeting in Reykjavik. Brizzel has the Olympic qualifying standard for the 200m and he clocked a steady if unspectacular 21.08 last weekend in Bedford.
North Down triple jumper Paul Curran is among a batch of late replacements in the Irish squad.
Other Northern Ireland athletes selected for the trip are Anna Boyle, Ian Neely and Erin Kinnear.
Hurdler Peter Coghlan is among the late withdrawals from the Irish team while those drafted in include Jer O'Donoghue (100m), Vinny Mulvey (3000m) and Rob Connolly (5000m).
The women's team also shows changes from last week's original selection with Roisin McGettigan now selected in the 3000m, Pauline Curley in the 5000m and Fionnuala Britton in the 3000m steeplechase.
Paul McKee, meanwhile, will not be in the Irish squad in Iceland and time is now running out on his hopes of making the Athens Olympics.
He continues to be affected by a virus that he picked up in late April.
 | If I have any further setback, then the season will be definitely over for me |
The 2003 World Indoor bronze medallist has attempted to resume training over the past week but the continues to affect him.
"I'm hoping to run maybe a 100m at the Dublin International on Friday week but that's depending on things starting to go better for me," said McKee.
"It's very frustrating. If I have any further setback, then the season will be definitely over for me."
While McKee does hope to run in Belgium on 2 July, he has given up any hope of achieving the Athens qualifying standard of 45.55 by the Olympic Councils of Ireland's imposed cut-off point of 3 July.
What is frustrating for McKee and many other Irish athletes, is that the IAAF's international deadline is 9 August.
The Olympic standard of 45.55 is .03 faster than McKee's Irish record set in 2002.
Meanwhile, Gareth Turnbull will race next in Zagreb on 29 June.
Turnbull returned to his base in England last weekend after a training and racing stint in the US.
The Belfast man's personal best of 3:36.60, set last year, is .40 outside the Olympic mark.
In recent weeks, he clocked 3:40 on two occasions in the US.
