Mark Carroll dropped out of the London Marathon on Sunday |
Mark Carroll has decided not to compete in the marathon at the Athens Olympics following his disappointing performance in London on Sunday. The Corkman dropped out at the 16 mile mark on Sunday after losing touch with the leading athletes.
Carroll's plan now is to achieve the 10,000m qualifying time.
"I had been thinking for some time that Athens is not the place for the marathon. You really don't want to be running in 100 degrees," said Carroll.
Despite his drop-out, the former European Indoor 3,000m champion said he had suffered no ill-effects after Sunday's race.
"I got out without damaging myself. I felt like I've run a fast 16 miles but nothing worse than that and I would hope to be back on the track within six weeks."
