McKee gives up on worlds
Irish runners David McCarthy and Robert Daly
Robert Daly pipped David McCarthy to the AAAs title
Paul McKee has given up hope of being included in the Irish team for the World Indoor Championships in Hungary.

McKee, who won a bronze at the 2003 championships, had been struggling with a hamstring injury in recent weeks.

Robert Daly and David McCarthy are now in line to represent Ireland in Budapest (5-7 March).

Daly won the AAAs title in Sheffield last weekend with McCarthy in second ahead of Jamie Baulch of Wales.

McKee has opted to run the 60 metres at the Irish Indoor Championships in Belfast (14-15 February) to work on his speed.

He said it would be his final appearance of the indoor season and that he planned to rest the injury to help him prepare properly for the outdoor campaign.

Daly (46.68 seconds) and McCarthy (46.80) have better 400 metres times this season than the 47.62 McKee clocked in Sweden on Thursday night.
