McIlroy in GB team

James McIlroy is to compete in the world indoor championships

Larne runner James McIlroy has been included in the Great Britain team for the world indoor championships in Hungary.

McIlroy was second in the 800 metres final of the AAAs indoors at Sheffield on Sunday, a meeting which served as trials for the world championships.

The Abbey athlete was the pre-race favourite but could not catch 19-year-old Ahmad Ismail of Sudan.

The world indoors are being staged in Budapest from 5 to 7 March.
