Tergat wins in Brussels
Paul Tergat
Tergat was world champion from 1995-1999
Five-time world cross country champion Paul Tergat warmed up for a tilt at the 2004 title with a victory in Belgium.

The Kenyan star held off Ukraine's Sergei Lebed and Tom Van Hooste of Belgium to win Sunday's Brussels international cross-country event.

He clocked a time of 33 minutes 52 seconds, with Lebed two seconds behind in second and Miller third in 33:55.

It was Tergat's first cross-country for three years as he has preferred to focus on marathon and track events.

He was world champion from 1995 to 1999.

Brussels also hosts the 2004 world cross country championships in March.
