Williams wins the 100m at the US Trials last week |
American sprint champion Bernard Williams believes British pair Dwain Chambers and Mark Lewis-Francis could break the 100m world record this year. Williams beat current world record holder Tim Montgomery at the US Trials last week - and he says the 100m is now more open than ever before.
"It's an open court now, whereas before it always seemed to be a two-horse race," said Williams.
"Now everybody is interested in who's going to win, instead of okay, we know who's going to win - turn the station over.
"I think anyone can break the world record this year. Me, Dwain Chambers, Tim Montgomery, and you can't rule out Maurice Greene.
"I wouldn't put it past Mark Lewis-Francis either, as he's still so young and his body hasn't even matured yet."

Williams joins Montgomery, Chambers and Lewis-Francis in the 100m line-up at the Norwich Union International in Glasgow on Sunday. Meanwhile Britain's number one British 400m runner Daniel Caines hopes to put early season illness behind him when he takes on 1998 European champion Iwan Thomas at the same meeting.
Caines, who was forced to withdraw from last week's European Cup through flu, said: "Over the last few weeks I've spent a substantial amount of time on planes, trains and automobiles and it's taken its toll.
"The doctors say that I am run down but that I am now on my way back - so hopefully Glasgow will be a boost to the confidence. It would be nice to go out and run well."
