Tim Montgomery ran 9.78 seconds in Paris last September |
World 100m record holder Tim Montgomery says British rival Dwain Chambers will not be able to fulfil his boast that he will run 9.65 seconds this season. "If he ran 9.65 they would have to carry him out in a wheelchair," said the American, who set the world record of 9.78 in Paris last September.
"To do that he would have to run 60m in 6.29 - and the record is 6.39."
Montgomery, 28, insisted he would not be paying special attention to European champion Chambers in 2003.
"I am not going to single out anyone. Everybody is on my radar," said Montgomery, who has his sights on a gold medal August's world championships.
Chambers opened his 2003 season with a third place and a promising time of 10.19 seconds in the Modesto Relays in California on Saturday.
But the 24-year-old was beaten by former world 200m title holder Ato Boldon, who clocked a winning time of 10.15secs with American Jon Drummond second in 10.17secs.
