Greene endured a difficult season in 2002 |
American sprinter Maurice Greene will again try to win both the 100 and 200 metres at this summer's World Championships in Paris.
Greene, the most successful sprinter of his generation, became the first man to win a world championship sprint double in 1999.
Competing in Martinique last Saturday, the three-time World 100m champion won a 200m race for the second successive weekend.
His time, 20.16 seconds, is the fastest at sea level this year.
"The 200m is challenging. Plus it was extremely hot and humid which made it even more difficult", said the former 100m world record holder.
"I felt a little dehydrated because I'm not used to these conditions. I'm happy for the win and my time.
"And I will continue to improve as the season continues," he said.
Greene, however, knows that it will be very hard to win at both sprint distances, particularly as the winning time in August is likely to be sub-20 seconds.
And in the 100m Greene will have to beat his American rival, and present world record holder, Tim Montgomery.
Even qualifying for the world championships could be problematic as only the first three finishers in June's USA Track and Field Championships gain automatic selection for Paris.
