 Greene is the fastest American 100m runner this year |
Triple world 100m champion Maurice Greene will run in both the 100m and 200m at the World Championships, his coach has confirmed. But Greene will not run in the 100m at this weekend's US championships at Palo Alto.
As the defending world champion, Greene gets an automatic spot in the US team for the 100m at the World Championships but must finish in the first three in the 200m to be selected for the longer race in Paris.
"Maurice is right on track in the 100m," coach John Smith said in a statement. "Knowing his goals, I need him to completely focus on the 200m this weekend."
Greene is the fastest American 100m this year with a time of 9.94 seconds.
He won both the 100m and 200m at the 1999 World Championships but won only the 100m at the 2001 championships in Edmonton after electing not to compete in the 200m.
