GB finalise Cup team
Mark Lewis-Francis will run the 100m for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team
Lewis-Francis has run 10.07 seconds this season
Mark Lewis-Francis has claimed the 100m spot in the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the Spar European Cup in Italy on 21-22 June.

But Julian Golding, who was first choice for the 200m berth, has decided he is too tired and has pulled out, although Golding will remain part of the 4x100m squad.

Golding, who had earned the 200m spot following times of 20.63 and 20.37 during the past week, will be replaced by Christian Malcolm.

Dwain Chambers announced he would not be defending his title last week, leaving Lewis-Francis the clear choice after his impressive 10.07 to win in Ostrava on 12 June.

Lewis-Francis has also made the 4x100m squad, alongside Chambers, Golding, Marlon Devonish, Darren Campbell and Malcolm.

Katharine Merry returns to the team after a two-year injury lay-off, making the women's 4x400m squad.

Natasha Danvers, already selected for the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles, has also been added to the squad.

Sean Baldock, Jamie Baulch, Tim Benjamin, Daniel Caines, Matt Elias, Iwan Thomas and Chris Rawlinson - also running in the 400m hurdles - are in the men's 4x400m squad.

The men's team are defending champions, but boss Max Jones insists they have a difficult task to retain their title.

Jones is without the services of Olympic triple jump gold medallist Jonathan Edwards and Commonwealth and European javelin champion Steve Backley because of injury.

And 110m hurdles world record holder Colin Jackson has retired.

"We're fielding the strongest team available," said Jones.

"Not having Colin is also going to hit us hard - it weakens our cause."
