Chambers and Lewis-Francis will still face each other in Ostrava |
Dwain Chambers has told selectors he does not want to be considered for Great Britain's 100m slot in the Spar European Cup final. Chambers is due to go head-to-head with Mark Lewis-Francis and Jason Gardener in Ostrava on Thursday night in what looked set to be an exciting run-off for the place in the British team.
UK Athletics selectors deliberately did not pick any sprinters for the 100 or 200 metres when announcing the Great Britain team on Monday.
But Chambers cited a heavy schedule following the cup final in Florence as he put his name forward only for the sprint relay.
"Dwain is competing in Athens three days after the European Cup followed closely by Oslo on 27 June and Glasgow on 29 June, all of which are tough races," said Mark Brodie, a spokesman for Chambers' management company Stellar.
UK Athletics performance director Max Jones said: "The Ostrava race was never intended to be a run-off between the three for European Cup selection.
"Obviously the performance of the athletes there will be taken into consideration and have an impact.
"But there is also Darren Campbell and others to be considered."
