The organisers of the Boston Games claimed a stress fracture was behind the European 100 metres champion's decision to miss Saturday's event. But a spokesman for his representatives, Stellar Athletics, said it was a minor problem - and that Chambers would compete in Birmingham on 21 February.
Chambers had been working with coaches Remi Korchemny and Mike Mcfarlane at his training base in Miami when he picked up the injury. Ukrainian Korchemny advised him to fly back to London, ruling him out of a clash with world indoors 60m record-holder Maurice Greene in Boston. "It's only a minor problem," said the spokesman. "Although Dwain also looks doubtful for the Millrose Games in New York next weekend, we are certain he will be ready for Birmingham and the Norwich Union Grand Prix on 21 February. "He's training normally, and there are no great worries. "We brought Dwain home as a precautionary measure and we're being careful and keeping him wrapped in some cotton wool." | See also: 25 Jan 03 | Athletics Top Athletics stories now: Links to more Athletics stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
