Substitute David Nugent turned the match for Bury, scoring an equaliser and setting up the winner within eight minutes as the visitors saw off Cambridge.

The 17-year-old striker stretched the Cambridge back-line from the moment he joined the action with 18 minutes to go, running past three defenders to haul his side back into the match.

Tom Young fired Cambridge in front in the 39th minute after goalkeeper Glyn Garner had run out of his goal into no man's land.

Cambridge controlled much of the game but were unable to get the important second goal and were visibly tiring when Nugent was introduced.

After finishing off a move started by Jon Newby, he created the winner, slipping the ball through for Colin Cramb, who outpaced stand in centre-back Dave Kitson and rounded goalkeeper Shaun Marshall.

Cambridge paid the penalty from missing a couple of excellent chances in an exciting final 15 minutes.

Kitson, their 16-goal top-scorer, raced through late on, only to shoot straight at goalkeeper Shaun Marshall.

In the final minute a well-worked three-man move set up a chance for Daniel Chillingworth, who, racing in at full pace, sliced his shot wide.
