| Saturday, 13 July, 2002, 13:54 GMT 14:54 UK Gaudio on course for hat-trick ![]() Gaudio has enjoyed great success on clay this year Seventh seed Gaston Gaudio came from a set down to beat Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic 4-6 6-4 7-6 (7/2) in the semi-finals of the Swiss Open in Gstaad. "I was nervous at the start and he served really very well so it was difficult for me and I felt anxious," said Gaudio. "But my confidence returned in the second set. This won't be my first ATP final this year, it will be my third, so that will help me. I won the other two so I am feeling pretty relaxed and easy about this one now." He suggested that anyone fancying a bet on him should do so with confidence. "I think everyone should put all their money on me," he said. The Argentine, seeking his third clay-court title of the season, will face twice French Open finalist Alex Corretja in the final. Corretja, who won the title in Gstaad in 1998 and 2000, defeated Czech qualifier Radek Stepanek 7-5 6-1 in a rain-delayed semi-final. Corretja, seeded eighth, has yet to drop a set at one of his favourite tournaments but had to wait for six hours before finally overcoming his opponent. The Spaniard made quick work of Stepanek when play finally resumed. The Czech player had no answer to his opponent's far greater experience and accuracy in what is their first ever meeting. |
