Cardiff release Harris

Cardiff Blues have terminated the contract of wantaway dual-code international Iestyn Harris.

Harris, who joined Cardiff and Wales three years ago, last week decided to trigger an opt-out clause in his contract to return to rugby league.

The 28-year-old wanted to clarify his position at Cardiff, but the club seems to have lost patience with him.

A statement from Harris' solicitor said the player was "surprised" that his Blues contract will be terminated.

The statement read: "Iestyn received notification that his contract with Cardiff Rugby Football Club was to be terminated.

"He is naturally surprised by the action of Cardiff and shall, over the next two days, consider his position."

Although former club Leeds Rhinos have first option on his services, reigning Super League champions Bradford Bulls are thought to have agreed a three-year deal for the former Great Britain stand-off.

Harris had become a regular in the Wales rugby union team, playing in the 2003 World Cup, and has won 25 caps.
