This is the best way of getting hold of the ball carrier who is gaining ground ahead of you.
Like the other ways of tackling, a good sense of timing and determination - not to mention bravery - are required.
If you get the timing wrong, you could end up with a face full of boot, not a particularly pleasant experience.
But when you get everything right, it is a great feeling, especially if the player with the ball is set to score a try.
STEP ONE
Focus on the target area - the back of your opponent's thighs - and get as close to the ball carrier as possible
STEP TWO
Make contact with your shoulder on your opponent's thigh and position your head to one side of their leg.
STEP THREE
Straighten your back and wrap your arms around the ball carrier's legs.
The combination of yours and your opponent's momentum will see you slide down your opponent's legs, which should naturally pull them down.
Concentrate on hanging on!
STEP FOUR
Land on top of the ball carrier - this is a very important point because it reduces the chances of injuring yourself.
Get to your feet as quickly as possible and get back into the game.
VARIATION - TAP TACKLE
This is a last-ditch tackle that should only be used if your opponent is too far ahead to make contact and is getting away from you.
Your aim to dive forward far enough to tap one of your opponent's ankles hard enough to send it banging into his other leg or foot.
It is a small hit, but one that can easily bring a man down if your timing is right.
However, remember deliberately tripping an opponent with your foot is against the rules and the spirit of the game.
