Here's how to do...the sidestep
All backs, especially wingers, need to be able to shake off the tacklers with a bit of quick footwork.
The sidestep is a simple and effective way of evading your marker to gain precious territory.
But as well as fast feet you'll need a fast brain to execute the move properly.
STEP ONE
As you approach the tackler, decide which direction you are aiming to run past them.
Shorten your stride to get your timing and balance right.
STEP TWO
Step wide with your outside leg, placing your body weight onto that leg, as if you are set to change direction that way.
Some players slow down slightly to lull the defender.
But in your mind, you are waiting for the tackler to shift sideways, and that's when you make your move.
STEP THREE
Shift your body weight to the other side of your body, exploding off your standing foot in an instant.
Continue pushing off on your outside leg, pumping your raised inside leg for extra power and to keep your balance.
STEP FOUR
Take advantage of the tackler's imbalance and accelerate past them.
