Jonah Lomu had already been the star of the World Cup when New Zealand lined up against England.

And the bulky wing ensured the English never had a chance right from the outset.

Just 20 minutes into the game it was all over as Lomu made an absolute mockery of all those that bothered to get in his way.

Most famously, he bulldozed the English backs, Tony Underwood, Will Carling and Mike Catt all bouncing off his legs before Rob Andrew failed to bring him down in time to stop the score.

In all Lomu, then aged 20, found his way across the line four times, boasting immense power and pace and making his rivals look like small boys against a giant.

In what was increasingly becoming a farcical semi-final, number eight Zinzan Brooke even slotted over a drop goal.

Despite the game being all but over, England refused to capitulate and decided to make a contest of it.

They looked a far stronger outfit in the second half as they opted for a more free-flowing style of rugby.

Scores by Rory Underwood and Will Carling saw them outscore New Zealand in the second 40 minutes but it was all too late.
