Robson admits French clubs have the financial edge on English ones |
Northampton Saints chief executive Allan Robson believes that it is "inevitable" that the Premiership wage cap of 4m will cease to exist. Robson claims that if English clubs are to continue competing with French clubs, who do not have a salary cap, then they need to scrap it. "The expenditure is growing and growing and remember we are competing overseas," Robson told BBC Northampton. "I believe it is inevitable the cap will go." "We have agreed that this season and next there will be no change in the cap. "Us and Leicester are the two big clubs in terms of finance and structure, but if you look at France and have a look at the budgets they are competing with it is nothing." Clubs in France are reportedly spending approximately 15m on their squad. "What we do need is that competitive balance on the pitch that is important to our domestic game, but then I am raising the issue about competition outside the domestic game that demands higher budgets."
