Umaga retired from Test rugby in January |
Former All Blacks captain Tana Umaga will be sidelined for at least six weeks after severely injuring a finger playing for Wellington on Friday. Umaga had to have surgery to re-attach the tip of the finger to the bone after it was left hanging by a single tendon.
The 33-year-old was playing in his side's 11-6 win over Bay of Plenty in New Zealand's provincial championship
The injury is unlikely to prevent Umaga from joining up with French club Toulon on a 12-month deal in October.
Umaga, who retired from Test rugby in January, scored 36 tries in 74 Tests for the All Blacks, the last 21 as captain.
