Peel was injured in a collision with Ezio Galon |
Wales and Llanelli Scarlets scrum-half Dwayne Peel faces a long spell on the sidelines after injuring his shoulder in the 18-18 draw against Italy. The Lions star was taken off in the first half after a heavy collision with Italy full-back Ezio Galon.
"He has injured his AC joint and certainly won't be available against France next week," said Wales caretaker coach Scott Johnson.
Initial fears are that he could miss the rest of the season.
Wales also have second-choice scrum-half Gareth Cooper out for the season with a shoulder injury, although Mike Phillips did well in the role after replacing Peel.
"Losing the premier half-back in the northern hemisphere [Peel] was a blow," said Johnson.
"The boys who have come back from the Lions tour have had a hard year and he will be glad of the rest."
Wales, who are expected to name their team to face France on Tuesday, have had appalling luck with injuries this season.
Long-term problems continue to keep Cooper, Gareth Thomas, Tom Shanklin, Brent Cockbain, Kevin Morgan, Iestyn Thomas, Ryan Jones and Chris Horsman sidelined.
