Leinster put themselves in pole position to qualify from Pool Four as they handed a third successive mauling to a woeful Swansea outfit.

Wing Gordon D'Arcy grabbed a hat-trick and man-of-the-match Brian O'Driscoll crossed twice as the Irish province claimed a comprehensive six-try victory.

After a narrow opening win over Bristol, one of the tournament favourites now top the group ahead of next weekend's trip to Montferrand.

Leinster's other touchdown came from back row forward Aidan McCullen.

Swansea, 37-3 down at half-time, responded in the second half with a converted try from centre Steve Winn.

But it was scant consolation for John Connolly's outclassed side as O'Driscoll and D'Arcy added late scores.

Leinster were 27-0 up inside half an hour with D'Arcy crossing twice and O'Driscoll also going over.

D'Arcy's first was a magnificent effort set up by a 70-metre counter attack down the wing from Shane Horgan.

As Swansea struggled to hold their line, play was moved left for Keith Gleeson to send D'Arcy over.

Humiliation

Executing everything at pace, Leinster claimed their second try when O'Driscoll flashed across with a home defence stretched to the limit.

Swansea were off the pace and making a glut of basic errors.

D'Arcy turned the screw with another touchdown after O'Driscoll kicked to the flag.

The humiliation continued with O'Driscoll touching down for a try in first-half injury time.

Swansea tightened up in the second half but face an almost certain early exit after an opening loss in France.

Their misery was complete when Lions centre Mark Taylor was stretchered off in the closing minutes with a possible recurrence of a knee injury.
