Menzies signs new Bradford deal

Australian forward Steve Menzies will stay at Bradford Bulls for another year after signing a new deal.

The 35-year-old joined the Bulls from NRL side Manly at the beginning of this season and has stood out for the Bulls in a poor campaign so far.

Menzies told BBC Radio Leeds: "I think I've still got a bit to offer and can play another 12 months.

"My first choice was to stay at Bradford so it's great that they wanted to keep me."

Menzies joined the Bulls following Manly's Grand Final victory over Melbourne Storm last year and has missed only one of the Bulls' 24 games this season, scoring 12 tries.

It's going to be good to run around again and show the supporters that we can compete and get up in the top bracket again

He will be joined at Odsal next season by his former Manly colleagues Glenn Hall and Heath L'Estrange.

It had been thought that Menzies would retire at the end of the current campaign, but the player nicknamed 'Beaver' due to his industrial nature around the field, said it was an easy decision to stay on.

"I get on well with the coaching staff, the club's been really great, my family are settling in and enjoying life over here so it was a pretty easy decision."

It has been a disappointing campaign for Bradford, who look certain to miss the play-offs, and Menzies is hoping to put that right next season.

"I suppose it would have been a disappointing way to finish my career over here, so it's going to be good to run around again and show the supporters that we can compete and get up in the top bracket again."
