Rugby league is full of tough guys only too willing to put their bodies on the line week after week.
But there are a few out there who are just so hard they send shivers down the back of the neck.
Here are the six players I think are the fiercest competitors.
Vince Karalius:
 | Vince Karalius: He gave the Australians a real going over |
The scourge of the Australians and known as the "Wild Bull of the Pampas", Vince Karalius was indestructible in any pack battle.
Afraid of no-one, loose forward Vince led from the front.
Ray Price:
Not the biggest of forwards, but this Kangaroos back-rower of the early 1980s could mix it with the best and liked to do so at every opportunity.
Cliff Watson:
Cliff, a former union prop who answered a newspaper advert to sign for St Helens in 1960, had immense strength and actually enjoyed crashing into the opposition or tackling the biggest and best in front of him.
Derek Turner:
Derek, a truly Great British Lion in the tours Down Under in the 1950s and 1960s, was the quiet achiever up front when forward play was at its most fierce.
Gorden Tallis: Has swapped punches with a number of opponents |
Not the biggest of men but certainly one of the strongest. Gorden Tallis:
The enforcer of the Brisbane Broncos and Australian packs, Gorden is one of the most uncompromising forwards in the modern game.
His all-action style of running and tackling can intimidate the most ferocious of opposition.
Barrie McDermott:
A rough, tough, rumbustious character, Leeds' 17 stone prop exudes charm off the field - but beware his fiery temper when roused on it.
After almost 200 appearances for the Rhinos, he knows how to look after himself when the action gets over-heated.
