Huddersfield held off Catalan Dragons to progress to the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup. After Jermaine McGillvary gave the hosts the lead, the French side hit back through Ian Henderson and Jean-Phillipe Baile. Leroy Cudjoe, David Hodgson and Kevin Brown put the Giants back in front, but Cyril Stacul kept the Dragons in touch. However, late scores from Darrell Griffin and Brown killed off Catalans and put Huddersfield in the last eight. The visitors were indebted to scrum-half Danny Brough, who created three scores and kicked three goals. McGillvary took Cudjoe's pass to finish a sweeping move and give the Giants the lead, but Henderson wriggled over to level before Baile's slick one-two with Damien Blanch opened up the Huddersfield defence. Two Brough kicks, the first swirling into the wind and gathered by Cudjoe, the second a grubber taken by Hodgson, resulted in the home side taking a lead that they did not surrender. Brough's powerful run from deep put Brown through for his first score, but the Dragons got back in it through Stacul's converted try. However, Griffin powered over and Brown notched his second with a fine solo effort to ensure the six-time Challenge Cup winners made it to the sixth round.
Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown: "We've had some players who were pretty poor today. They know who they are and that they'll have to do better. "You can't carry players through games in this day and age, whether it's Super League or knockout. "The main thing is we're in the hat for the next round. They didn't play particularly well either, but we seemed to hang in there a bit better and that's probably what got us the win." Catalan Dragons coach Trent Robinson: "I was pretty disappointed with how we played. There were too many simple errors. "The wind didn't help. It made it difficult to judge passing and kicking. "But our biggest problem was we couldn't get all 13 players onto the same page."
