Dureau joined Catalans from Newcastle Knights ahead of this season

Scott Dureau's late drop goal helped in-form Catalan Dragons extend their unbeaten run to six games by beating Super League leaders Huddersfield.

After David Ferriol's first-minute try, Lee Gilmour levelled for the Giants just three minutes later at 6-6.

Scott Grix then scored Huddersfield's second try midway through the half for a six-point lead at the break.

But Jason Baitieri's try hauled the Dragons level before Dureau's winning 45-metre drop with nine minutes left.

Trent Robinson's Catalans, who are now just three points off top spot in seventh, were given the best possible start with their early try.

After Danny Brough kicked out on the full from the kick-off, Ian Henderson's short ball found Ferriol.

Dureau added the simple conversion, but the visitors hit back when Scott Grix's mazy run set-up Gilmour to go over and Brough kicked the extras.

Luke O'Donnell and Larne Patrick combined to set up Grix to put Huddersfield ahead, with Brough succeeding with the conversion to send the visitors 12-6 ahead at the break.

After Remi Casty's saw his try disallowed for a knock-on, Catalan drew level when Henderson fed Baitieri for a try and Dureau added the two points.

Huddersfield winger Jermaine McGilvary had a score wiped out for a two-on-one steal.

And, with nine minutes left, Dureau's one-pointer from 40 yards won it for the Dragons.

With Warrington back to winning forn, that toppled the Giants from the Super League leadership.

Catalan Dragons coach Trent Robinson:
"Cyril Stacul was outstanding for us. He had a cracker of a game. He was the best player out on the park and after him, some of our middle players were superb for us, especially in defence.

"We had 13 French players out there for us. That has to be the biggest stat for me. They have got to be proud of what they did.

"We're a French club first and foremost and to have 13 out of 17 and beat Huddersfield is something they should be proud of.

"I believe in them and the French people believe in them and they should be proud because they were outstanding."

Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown:
"We put in a great effort but we've had over 20 errors and, at this standard of footy, you can't do that, especially against a team that is playing that well.

"We need to look at our ball control, because it wasn't good enough and in attack our support play left a lot to be desired.

"We have to look at what we need to do better to win games. The effort was there from the boys in defence and I can't bag them for that but we struggled with our ball control."
